Castillo del Mar

The former banana loading station of Castillo del Mar stretches far out to sea. With almost magical power, it captivates passers-by, a witness to the rich economic period of La Gomera’s north.

At rest for over fifty years, the loading station offered a unique platform for various cultural events in front of the silhouette of the Teide – Spain’s highest mountain.

The Castillo has been closed down for many years. More details can be found on the website of the Castillo del Mar.

The Castillo del Mar in Vallehermoso is known by many names such as Pescante, Empaquetadora de Platanos, or just El Castillo. The former small harbour complex at Vallehermoso’s beach has stood on a cliff in the middle of the Atlantic since 1890.

Rediscovery of the Castillo del Mar

In 1981, Thomas K. Müller bought the harbour complex El Castillo from Don Eugenio Garcia Perez. At the time, access was only possible via the ocean; the Castillo del Mar was later extensively renovated, however.
