Whale Watching Tours
The ocean south west off La Gomera is a perfect area to meet wild dolphins and whales. 21 different species have been sighted during the last 15 years.
Every one of our boat trips is new and different as we are dealing with wild animals, which are constantly moving trough the ocean. So we will never exactly know where they can be found right in that particular moment. We have to search for them on every excursion anew – and we are very much in favour of finding them!
The sighting rates peak in springtime with up to 100%. But the other months are also very impressive So we had a sighting rate of 87% in 2009. We never give sighting guarantees but expect from our nature loving guests that they will appreciate what the ocean is willing to show us on this specific day.
Expect the unexpected! Even blue whales have been passing through this area. And be able to accept that it might turn out differently and then enjoy the ocean itself, the seabirds, there might be a sea turtle, jumping tuna or a flying fish or simply the sparkling light of the sun dancing on the surface of the ocean. During the warmer months there might be time for a swimming break.
The Oceano Team will always give its best and we promise to do our utmost to encounter these fascinating sea mammals together with you. And chances are good…..
We sail the ocean with a former, typically Canary fishing boat named Ascensión del Senor and a sailing boat Triana. The Ascension del Senor lies perfectly stable in the water, does not sway much, is simply made for this region and allows us an intense and very close contact with the sea mammals.
On board we have space for 10 guests and there is sufficient room to sit or lie down, stand up – to just settle back, relax and enjoy your time on the ocean! Both Oceano Boats comply with all safety regulations and are officially licensed as whale watching boats with the yellow flag "Barco Azul".
With the sailing boat we offer as well sailing days "Sails and Whales". Ask for the dates in the Oceano office.
