Fiestas

The Canarios are well known for their talent and desire to party. Even on La Gomera, the locals certainly know how to celebrate the different events. A procession and afterwards a party with lots of dancing are all part of the plan for almost every fiesta!

Local bands help to fuel the celebrations with their fast rhythms and South-American style.

All of the local fiestas wouldn’t be complete without an extensive programme of additional events.

Besides the traditional customs and folklore, the organisers offer sports competitions, concerts, markets and much more.

Christian and Pagan Traditions

Christian festivals, such as Los Reyes Magos (Epiphany) and the accompanying Christmas gift giving, are celebrated traditionally. But also a combination of Christian and Pagan traditions is cultivated as a matter of course.

The Summer Solstice is celebrated in June, together with processions to honour San Juan.

Helpful Patron Saints

Furthermore, the patron saints are honoured with large, lively festivals, such as Nuestra Senora de Carmen, the patron saint of fishermen.

The patron saint of the island is honoured at the bajada de la Virgen de la Guandalupe.

Fiesta calendar

The fiesta calendar of La Gomera is colourful and diverse. Christian, national and local holidays, along with traditional spectacles and harvest celebrations make up the annual cycle. Don’t miss out on taking part in one of the island’s many fiestas!
